AYESTRA CALLING (Return of the Guardian Trilogy, Book 2) Excerpt

sight1“Come on.” Before I could respond Tai was already on his feet. He was slightly bent and moving swiftly  towards one of the unoccupied huts. I didn’t waste time following him, deciding I could ask  questions later. My legs felt like rubber, as I tried to move as quickly as I could to join him and the nerves in my feet pinched viciously as feeling started to return.

“Are you sure this is safe?” I whispered, crouching just behind him. He inclined his head in the direction of the crowd, who were still focused on the man in their midst. I couldn’t understand what they were saying, their language foreign and strange sounding to me. It was as if they had taken a huge pot and added all the languages I’d ever heard and allowed them to bubble up to a rich boil. None of it made remote sense and was like total gibberish.

“He’s their leader,” Tai said, adding, “They keep referring to him as ‘lohar’.” As if sensing my confusion, he turned to me briefly, “They speak in old caloo tongue, only a few tribes still do.”

sight1“And you just happen to understand them?” I asked incredulously,

“The old families are all taught the ancient tongues, it is important that we can converse with anyone throughout Ayestra. Your brother would know them too. Stay here,” he ordered, then he was up, exposing himself fully. I wanted to call after him, to tell him to come back, that we didn’t know enough yet, but he’d already been spotted. The crowd faced him, eying him suspiciously. I shrank further back behind the hut. ~

  1. Thanks so much for taking the time to share a snippet of your story. It sounds interesting! Now, I’m curious about the rest of it. Hope to read more soon. I want to see who these people are and what happens to Tai and his friend. All the best!
