Have you noticed that a hundred people could say you did something fabulously and it just takes one person to ruin it with a negative comment? That’s because our brains quite literally find it easier to hold onto the negative than the positive.
The good news is we can change this, by training our minds to react differently to these encounters. I am not saying it mightn’t feel horrid in the moment, but the trick is to push that moment aside and focus on the good.
Positive reinforcement must come from within us. Other individuals can boost it sure, however, if it isn’t something that we cultivate ourselves, we won’t move forward, and in turn crush this paradigm of falling into the negativity death-trap.
What makes you happy? What helps you get over ugly moments in your life? What are those things that make you forget all about what the silly guy in the elevator said about your new hat? We have to know what these things are, so they can become our go-to thoughts as we go through the process of ‘teaching’ our minds to ignore negativity. Eventually, it will just be a part of who we are :).
