Hey lovely readers! I hope the week’s treating you well so far ^_^. Part 2 of Dreams & Sand, chapter 1 of my science fantasy novel Awakening (When Worlds End Trilogy) is now available for your reading pleasure here: ‘Dreams & Sand (Pt. 2)’
I wrote this story a few years ago and what’s amusing are the subtle changes I’ve had to make because of the advancements in tech (to name a few) overall. That’s the only thing about deciding to release a story that’s meant to be set in present time (more or less), because unless you’re writing it and releasing it now, it will age a bit and need to be revamped to include elements that keep it in the right ‘time perspective’.
A way to avoid having to do this is either being vague with some things or, using elements that don’t give your story a definitive age. For example, instead of your character listening to a new Rihanna song, she could be bopping away to Madonna, which gives more range with regard to years in action. For me it just depends on the story. With the When Worlds End (WWE) trilogy, I had intended to release much earlier and deferred and so, rewrites had to happen in order to bring my characters (who exist in our world) to the present day. Not a hard fix for my story but for some others, it can be trickier.
In summary, it’s really up to the writer what they decide to do, but, if the story is set in the present day, be sure to set it up in a way that even if you need to make changes, your plot won’t crumble around it if you don’t get it out to the public immediately.
See you all Friday and I hope you enjoy the latest installment of Awakening. The beginning of chapter 2: The Scientist & The Assassin, will be posted this Saturday, March 8, 2014.
